Glory Gallore/Myth ?

Yesterday, I was watching the Finals of Asia Cup 2010 between India and Sri lanka. India won and received loads of applauses yet again. Which reminds me of the last match where they lost the match with same team miserably. And no body remembered the loss.

Once in an ODI match, Dhoni made century after escaping enumerable chances of being caught. The commentators later made a very meticulous statement saying "Dhoni wont be known for his ticket-to-pavilion escapes but for all the records he ever made !".

Isn't it the same in all the fields ? Be it Bollywood where stars are not remembered for their behind-the-scene controversies (though sometimes to cast light on brighter side negating those controversies by justifications), but for the hits they made and the struggle they endured to get to the pinnacle.

Or, be it politics. Even though a politician has never done a remarkable deed all his life time, his stooges would point out the Garibi hatao Andolan (where he & the sycophants worked to improve their Garibi) as staff to hoist the flag of benevolence.

Food for Thought: Should we follow the same league or should we find a new way, where virtues don't sell ?

Heart do Speak !

whenever we say "think from the bottom of the heart"...we trigger a decision making process which could be rational or irrational based on human interaction with the environment and his psychological experience with it. Hence, its not the heart (scientifically a part of body meant only to purify & pump blood ,failure of which is fatal)which speaks, its the part of the limbic system which is responsible for the feelings, values, emotional stability, attachment to smone or smthing which encircles our expression & behaviour

Does Heart Speaks?

Does Heart Speaks?

It's true and well known fact that transmission and reception of words ,feelings, actions and reactions are well governed by the human transmitter and receptor system of neuron network through electrical impulses. Heart does not have any such system of its own to meddle with such signals. then why do we say statements like “ ….from the bottom of my heart” ,"...hearty wishes...", "...pain in my heart.." ?

Well, we are not drawing a line of demarcation here between heart’s speaking abilities and that of brain’s. Heart cannot speak the language of the brain!!

Consider the following cases:

Case1: how about saying this sentence “ I am gasping for breath after a mile’s run “ plainly

And take in air faster and faster, breath air in and out more frequently, gasp for breath with some sweat on your forehead and then stammer the sentence with some breaks “ I am gasping ha..ha..uff..(breathing) for… breath after …a mile’s run ha…huh..(breathing) “

Second sentence expresses it more clearly

Here direct visuals helps in precise expression.

Case2: say “ go away” plainly

Say with shouting “ go away”

Expression is more clear in second sentence even though both are saying/telling. But how do you put this situation in just words?
We say this, he shouted “ go away” instead of putting, he told “ go away”

There are different words which express telling and replying more precisely;frown, shout, scream, thudder, stammer are few such words. these are alternate precise words to explain the situation without which expression is not so clear.

Case3:husband has to depart from his wife for a while,he wants to say “ I love you, I miss you” , how does he say this?

He says “ I love you, I miss you” plainly

He holds her hands, hugs if needed, allows few drops of tears to roll down from his eyes and then say “ I love you, I miss you”

In this situation, emotions and gestures come in handy to express more clearly.

Now, what can replace the situation of saying “…..from the bottom of my heart” or “ ….hearty wishes..” or “ ….pain in my heart…..”

Visuals? Alternate words? Emotions and gestures?

No, not as effectively as these sentences themselves !!

to express that these words/feelings come from deep within and not directly from vocal cords,we use such sentences.
So, one reason why such sentences are in use is for vivid expression.

English is a cultured language. words, phrases, how we explain different situations, all get evolved over a period of time. This is the second reason why such sentences are used in contemporary Engilsh.Such sentences are also used in Hindi, kannada, etc.

Now,does your heart speak?

Does Heart speaks ?

Most of the time we see people saying,".....from the bottom of my heart...", "....wish from my heart....", ".....hearty thanks....", ".....feeling warmth within the heart....", ".....pain in my heart...." , etcetera etcetera.

My question is, our whole body system gets the signals from our brain. Even to the heart. Then why do we make a borderline between the feelings of brain and heart. Why are we asked at times to think from the heart than to use the brain, when the signals/orders to the heart are sent by the brain ?

[I am not putting any personal idea here but welcome any idea one likes to share. :) ]
